I’m so sick of writing blog posts about another unarmed African-American shot dead by a jumpy white police officer, who says they swore they saw a gun. But here we go again. What’s worse is to hear that another jumpy white cop is getting off! That’s the case with Terence Crutcher.
On September 16, 2016, Terence Crutcher, a 40-year-old father of four, was fatally shot by white police officer Betty Shelby in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was unarmed during the encounter, in which he was standing near his vehicle in the middle of a street. Cruthcer told witnesses in the area that he thought that car was getting ready to explode. Cops were called to the scene where they tried to subdue Crutcher but clearly he can be seen p
Shelby claimed she saw a gun and that’s when she shot Crutcher in the street. But that’s not the most disturbing part of this story. It’s what the other officers said and did that is the crux of this case. I want you to listen to how the officers who were in the helicopter described Crutcher as a bad dude. By the way, the officer in the helicopter who called Crutcher “a really bad dude, is the husband of Officer Betty Shelly.
I’m going to piss of some white people but I don’t really give a fuck. These obviously white cops in the helicopter saw a black man. They hadn’t witnessed a crime committed by Crutcher, but to them he was already a “really bad dude.” He couldn’t be a man with a mental illness. He couldn’t be a man with confusion. He couldn’t be anything but a really bad dude, because he was black. We’ve seen this over and over again, this crazy assumption that white people make up in their minds about people of color, that they are violent criminals! The most abhorrent behavior is from the cops at the scene who allowed Crutcher to bleed out in the street. It took 45 minutes before medical attention was given to him. That was done on purpose. No witness, no crime. Although Shelly said she saw a gun and that Crutcher had threatened her, video shows a different story (see Shelly’s police interrogation below.)
In the end Crutcher is dead and this week Officer Betty Shelly was acquitted and received $35,000 in back pay. If that isn’t enough to be mad about then I don’t know what is. In the end Crutcher is just another dead black man who got no justice!
Chris Cornell, front man for Soundgarden was found dead in a Detroit hotel room.
Yesterday we learned about Chris Cornell’s death. Cornell, front man for Audioslave and Soundgarden, was a prolific Seattle rocker and reached the heights of grunge fame in the 90’s. I loved his steely voice especially in songs like Black Hole Sun and Outshine.
This morning we learned more about Cornell’s last hours from his wife Vicky. She said he wasn’t depressed or suicidal. She talked to him before his last concert in Detroit, and said he seemed fine. It was after the concert she spoke to him and he sounded slow and his speech was slurred. He mentioned that he might have taken too much Ativan. At 12:30 police entered his room and found him dead from hanging.
I have a personal story I want to share with you about Ativan. Ativan is commonly prescribed for sleep and anxiety, but the side effects are far more dangerous than what it claims it cures or controls. One of the side effects from this drug is suicidal thoughts. After being prescribed Ativan, I unknowingly became addicted to the drug. During the seven years I was on the drug I was severely depressed, attempted suicide two times and hospitalized twice. My doctors continued to prescribe Ativan. It wasn’t until Christmas 2012 when my Ativan prescription got lost in the mail. I didn’t understand what withdrawal really was, but I was about to learn. By day three I was in full-blown withdrawal. My legs were restless, every bone in my body felt twisted. I threw up and shit at the same time! I laid on the bathroom floor next to the cat box and begged God to take me. Little did I know I could have accidentally killed myself. By doing a cold withdrawal and not tapering off the medication I could have had a seizure and died.
It took years to recover from what that drug did to me physically and emotionally. I’m convinced that Ativan attributed greatly to my depression, suicidal thoughts and anxiety. Because of my experience with Ativan I read all the information on medication before taking it. I don’t assume that my doctor has my best interest in mind. I now advocate for myself. I only wished that Cornell had someone to advocate for him. Now the only grunge rocker left is Eddie Vedder. This about that for a minute.
Weiner pleads guilty in federal court.
Breaking news, disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner pled guilty in federal court today to a single charge of transferring obscene material to a minor. This is a felony charge and Weiner could be doing some time for his nasty crime.
Weiner was married to Huma Abedin who was the closet adviser and campaign strategist for Hillary Clinton. The FBI was conducting an investigation on Weiner during the 2016 campaign. The FBI suspected Weiner of using Clinton’s server and Abedin’s computer to send dick pics to strangers. It was this investigation that led Comey to announce that he was looking into Clinton’s emails again. Although Comey failed to emphasize that the investigation wasn’t about her emails but about Weiner and his weenie pictures. So basically thanks to Anthony Weiner we have the dick that we have in office now. Thanks a lot Anthony.
Obamacare might be a thing of the past if the Senate votes for the new AHCA bill.
Under the heels of yesterday’s congressional vote to repeal and replace Obamacare the nation is asking “is this all they can come up with?” Folks, this bill is a joke! The new bill allows insurance companies to “cherry pick” customers based on pre-existing illnesses such as cesarean birth, sexual assault, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and the list goes on. It also lifts the mandate for healthy people to enroll into the Obamacare plan. Because of the lift on the mandate, insurance companies can now put people into pools based on pre-existing illnesses making premiums more expressive and therefore healthcare less accessible to the working poor. It also reduces Medicare benefits for the elderly and over 7 million veterans who live in rural areas will lose their accessibility to health care and services.
The wealthy were the ones who benefited the most from yesterday’s vote, giving the super rich a $6 billion tax cut. This wasn’t a healthcare bill this was a tax cut bill for the wealthy. No longer will they be taxed to support Obamacare. But wait, not so fast. This morning the Senate announced they will not pass this bill and are now working to come up with a bill of their own. I have a new-found respect for the Senate. They seem to be doing a great job working in a bipartisan fashion on the investigation into the Trump-Russia connection. They seem to be able to come together on creating sustainable relationships that cross party lines. I’m really liking these guys. On the flip side I can’t say the same for Congress. Congress seems to be like an annoying little brother that keeps saying he wants to play, but he don’t understand the damn game!
Another issue I have with this ram-rodded healthcare bill is it didn’t have a Congressional Budget Office or CBO rating which determines how much a bill will cost in the long run. The CBO is a bipartisan organization. Speaker Paul Ryan said that under his leadership no bill shall be passed without a CBO rating. Apparently, this isn’t the truth.
Affordable, accessible healthcare isn’t a luxury, it is a right! The only way to make this happened is to regulate health care costs and insurance companies. The only solution is universal health care. In fact, even Trump praised Australia’s universal health care system. I guess being a democratic socialist does make sense.
Rose with the help of her lawyer got her children back.
Good morning, my little bong buddies! I wanted to give you a quick update on the DaddyOFive case. After a collaberated effort from people on YouTube. Cody and Emma are now with their biological mom. It’s really awesome to see how when people come together and make good things happen. YouTubers created a GoFundMe for Rose, the bio mom, which has raised over $4,000. Rose was reunited with the kids yesterday, but not without a shitload of drama. Apparently, when Rose and the police rolled up on DaddyOFive’s home he was packing a moving truck! That’s right folks he was going to skip town with the kids to avoid the law, but you can’t run from the law. Rose has an interesting story to tell about how she lost custody of her children to begin with. Here is an audio of her compelling story:
Mike Martin admitted the fame became addictive for him and his family
People often say the worship of money is a sin, but the search for fame just might be a close second. Take the case of YouTube’s DaddyOFive channel. Mike Martin and his wife Heather, created the channel where they prank their kids to get their reactions. The Martin’s claim nearly every video is staged. I viewed nearly all of them and if these videos are staged these kids need Oscars.
Some of the scenarios in the videos include condoning violence between their children, destruction of personal property and emotional abuse. The DaddyOFive channel gained a following of over 700K subscribers. Take a look at the video that caused these parents to be formally investigated by CPS.
The age of social media has allowed the average person a chance at quasi-fame with only a camera and a computer. The Martin’s say the quest for fame became addictive, and as they attracted more subscribers they upped the ante. The more viewers and subscribers the channel got the more companies wanted to advertise on the DaddyOFive channel, and this is how the Martin’s made money. What started out to be friendly family videos quickly became abusive and viewers began to complain to Child Protective Services.
Fame is more addictive than money, but just like money it will cause a person to say and do things they wouldn’t do in normal circumstances. Managing fame requires a person to understand that fame is fleeting and it isn’t worth sacrificing your character and or your family.
